Hans von Nathusius

Hans Engelhard von Nathusius (born August 24, 1841 in Hundisburg , † October 22, 1903 in Dillenburg ) was a Prussian officer and country stable master in Prussia.

Life

Nathusius was born in his father's castle in Hundisburg . He was the third of five children of the animal breeder Hermann von Nathusius and Luise, nee. Bartels (1810-1906). One of his two brothers was the later Poznan police chief Gottlob Engelhard von Nathusius . His great-nephew was Simon von Nathusius , an important horse breeding scientist at the University of Halle (Saale) . Hans von Nathusius spent his childhood in Hundisburg.

Military career

After graduating from high school, Nathusius began his military service on April 1, 1860, with the traditional cuirassier regiment “von Seydlitz” (Magdeburgisches) No. 7 in Halberstadt . On September 19, 1860 he was appointed portepee ensign . On December 8, 1861, he was promoted to second lieutenant . As such, he took part in the war against Denmark in 1864. From May 13th to September 6th, 1866 he was commanded as adjutant to the 7th Heavy Landwehr Cavalry Regiment. With this unit he took part in the war against Austria in the same year . From October 30, 1866 to October 13, 1869 he was an adjutant of the 8th Cavalry Brigade in Erfurt . On October 14, 1869, he was transferred back to his regular regiment and promoted to Prime Lieutenant on December 9, 1869 .

"Death ride of the Bredow Brigade"

In 1870 Nathusius went to war against France with the regiment . The association participated in the Vionville attack . The regiment, part of the 12th Cavalry Brigade under Major General Adalbert von Bredow , attacked the numerically far superior VI on August 16, 1870 in an attack later known as the "death ride of the Bredow Brigade". Corps of the French Army of the Rhine under the hapless Marshal François Certain de Canrobert and was able to eliminate the enemy artillery and cavalry units. Nathusius was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his achievements .

On December 19, 1874, he was promoted to Rittmeister and appointed chief of the 5th Squadron. On November 16, 1882, his resignation was granted and permission to wear his regiment's uniform was granted. During his military service Nathusius received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class.

Animal breeder

After leaving the Prussian Army , Nathusius first traveled to England to prepare for a career as a stud manager . Then he took up the post of director of the state stud in Zirke an der Warthe (today: Sieraków) in the province of Poznan .

From 1896 he was the state stable master and stud director of the Hessian-Nassau State Stud in Dillenburg in the then Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau .

family

While working as a division adjutant in Erfurt , Nathusius met Marianne Buhlers and married on October 28, 1869. She was the daughter of a merchant and manor owner near Querfurt and Weißendiez . The couple had seven children, including three sons Walter , Franz Xaver and Hans Joachim, who were later to take over the Johann Anton Lucius textile company .

Hans von Nathusius died in Dillenburg in 1903 at the age of 62. His widow then moved to her home in Erfurt.

Others

His extensive coin collection was auctioned on March 18, 1907. Among other things, it consisted of a series of clerical and secular princes, the city of Nuremberg and newer talers and imperial coins.
