Gottsunda and Gamla – Södra Gottsunda form two districts of Uppsala , about 7 km southwest of the city center. As part of the million dollar program , new housing developments were built here in the 1960s and 1970s. In 2017 the place had about 10,400 inhabitants. Gottsunda is considered a social hotspot and is listed by the Swedish police on the list of particularly vulnerable areas (Särskilt utsatta områden ).
Infrastructure
In the east of the district there is a shopping center called Gottsunda Centrum , which not only houses large supermarkets ( ICA , Willys, Lidl ) but also a branch of the municipal job center and various educational institutions. Under the name Kontakten , one of the largest Swedish study associations in adult education, Studienfrämjandet , offers basic democratic, cultural and musical education. The local library is also housed in the building complex .
The school in Gottsunda was built in 1976 and large parts of it burned down in October 2018. The less destroyed parts of the building were renovated and a new wing built. School operations in the new building were resumed in August 2019.
The place also has a church that was built in 1980.
