The al-Ahmadi Governorate ( Arabic محافظة الأحمدي, DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Aḥmadī ) is one of the six governorates of Kuwait. It has about a million inhabitants. Located in the southern part of the country, Kuwait is known for its green spaces and British colonial buildings. The governorate forms an important part of the Kuwaiti economy as there are several Kuwaiti oil refineries here. The main residential areas are Abu Halifa, Riqqah and Mangaf. Ahmadi is home to several sports clubs and complexes in Kuwait. The headquarters of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company is in al-Ahmadi.
