The landscape protection area end moraine area with Hessenstein between Lütjenburg and Hohenfelde and the surrounding area is a 37.51 square kilometer landscape protection area in the district of Plön in Schleswig-Holstein, southeast of Kiel . The area is located in parts of the municipalities of Hohenfelde , Tröndel , Panker , Behrensdorf , Giekau and Klamp as well as the city of Lütjenburg . The landscape protection area is of local and regional importance for numerous animal and plant species and communities, especially for international bird migration. The terminal moraine area was designated as a landscape protection area on July 21, 2017.

Description of the area

The landscape protection area is characterized by highly visible compression terminal moraines with the Hessenstein observation tower on the Pilsberg, with largely wooded ridges and deeply cut valleys as well as by flat transition areas into the surrounding ground moraines . In the landscape protection area there are several smaller lakes such as the Brammer See, Gasser See and the Grundlose See as well as several small rivers that are considered to be near-natural or natural. In addition, the landscape is characterized by humid depressions with wet grassland, willow bushes and forests, avenues, redder , crooks and overhangs , large estate areas and small-scale rural fields. The areas of the semi-open pastureland of edged moraine on the Hessenstein are used extensively . Barrows can be found especially at Giekau and Panker.
