Budimir Vujačić

Budimir Vujačić (born January 4, 1964 in Titograd ) is a former Yugoslav football player .

Athletic career

Vujačić began playing football at OFK Petrovac , for which he made his debut in the competition team in the early 1980s. From his former Yugoslav second division club, the defender moved to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1985 for SC Freiburg . Under coach Anton Rudinski he was a regular at the side of Joachim Löw , Udo Lay , Souleymane Sané , Maximilian Hauck and Franz Weber in the 1985/86 season. The club was in danger of relegation, so that Jupp Becker took over in January and Kurt Rettenberger at the end of March . Ultimately, he was on the field in 33 of the 38 season games, with one goal in the 4-1 win over Alemannia Aachen , he contributed to staying in the last non-relegation place. In the following season Jörg Berger took over the coaching position. Initially still a regular, he moved into the second tier in the second half of the season. Although he had only missed one game in the season 1987/88 due to a yellow card suspension until the end of the year, he returned to Yugoslavia at the turn of the year.

Vujačić joined the FK Vojvodina , which was promoted to the 1st Yugoslav football league in the summer of 1987 . With the newcomer, he finished the season in tenth place in the table. In the 1988/89 season he was one of the pillars of the team that was Yugoslav champions for the second time since 1966. He scored seven goals during the season. The FK Partizan Belgrade recruited him from then, he also made his debut for the Yugoslav national team . At the side of games like Predrag Mijatović , Vujadin Stanojković , Gordan Petrić , Slaviša Jokanović and Slobodan Krčmarević , he won the Yugoslav Cup in 1992 and another championship title in 1993 in the rest of Yugoslavia. In 1992 he was part of the Yugoslav national team for the European Championship in Sweden , but the team was unloaded shortly before the start of the tournament and replaced by Denmark .

Due to the Yugoslav wars, Vujačić sought a challenge abroad again in 1993. He was under contract with Sporting Lisbon for three and a half years. In 1995 he won the Taça de Portugal with the club . After only being used irregularly, he moved to Japan at the beginning of 1997, where he let his career end with Vissel Kobe .

Vujačić later worked as a talent scout for Manchester United , where he was responsible for the Balkans .
