Govelin is a hamlet in the municipality of Göhrde in northern Wendland ( Lüchow-Dannenberg district ) in Lower Saxony . Until 1972 it was an independent municipality.

Location and structure

The settlement is located at about 50 m above sea level in a bulge of the Hohe Geest des Drawehn . The surrounding area forms a kind of dry valley between hilly, heavily cut terminal moraine lines. Very dry, nutrient-poor sandy soils dominate. The municipal area is 453 hectares, of which 121 hectares are agriculture. The Wittenberge – Buchholz railway line passes to the north, the stop is Leitstade . The B 216 runs south and is linked by a connecting road via Metzingen and Bredenbock .

Govelin consists of three individual courtyards. Large four-column main houses are loosely arranged under tall oak trees. The population is ten (four of them in secondary apartments; as of 2000).

Nature, tourism

Due to the particularly careful management of a Goveliner farmer, significant populations of the field fire lily and other plant species specialized in low -nutrient locations were able to be preserved and spread on some dry fields . A field lily trail has been marked east of the hamlet; Guided tours and lectures take place when the fire lilies are in bloom in June / July.
