The Gräbelesberg is 913.2  m above sea level. NHN high mountain promontory in the Eyachtal ( Swabian Alb ) in the Albstadt district of Laufen an der Eyach in the Zollernalb district in Baden-Württemberg . The rock bastion, which protrudes far into the valley and slopes steeply on all sides, offers a unique view over the Eyach valley into the foothills of the Alb. Its neighboring mountains on the Albtrauf are the Lochenhörnle to the northwest and the Tierberg to the southeast, opposite over the Eyach valley are the Böllat and Heersberg .

In the area of the connection to the Hossing plateau, two historical ramparts indicate an earlier settlement of the Gräbelesberg plateau. Finds on the front ramparts ( Gräbelesberg Castle ) could be dated to the early 6th century. The rear ramparts come from the Hallstatt period (from 800 BC).

The steep edge of the Rote Wand , a ledge on the western upper edge of the valley connecting the plateau to the south, is protected as a geotope . At the foot of the slope, wetlands (Höllwald) are formed in the depressions of the slippery slopes.

vegetation

Rare plant species thrive in various places on the Gräbelesberg. On the southern side there are more Mediterranean species and on the northern side more Scandinavian species. Larger parts of the former pasture now consist of forests and dry grass .

On the southern and western slopes, the soil is dry and stony and forms the basis for the dry grass. The steep slopes are particularly exposed to the sun's rays, so that the plants growing here have to develop special defense strategies. An occurrence of around 50 flowers of the common pasque flower on the Triebfels on the hiking trail to Gräblesberg near Hossingen is called Hosenglocka in the local Swabian dialect. The plants protect themselves, for example, with thick hair growth.
