Gröpernmühle

The Gröpernmühle is a listed former watermill in Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

The mill registered in the Quedlinburg monument register is located north of the Quedlinburg old town on the east side of the street Gröpern at the address Gröpern 12 . It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Mühlengraben runs west of the property and the Gröpernmühle is located on the left bank.

Architecture and history

The Mühlenhof consists of a simple three-sided development of half-timbered houses . Most of the mill buildings date from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

However, the history of the mill is much older. The first documentary mention dates back to around 1050. In 1821 the Kratzenstein company, which operated the Quedlinburg castle mill, also acquired the Gröpernmühle. The Gröpernmühle had its own grain distillery. After the First World War , the Gröpernmühle then ceased operations.
