The SC Grün-Weiß Vallendar 1908 eV is a German football club based in the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Vallendar within the municipality of the same name in the district of Mayen-Koblenz .

history

Founded until World War II

The club was founded in the spring of 1908 under the name "FC Helvetia" . The first friendly match was then played in 1909 against BSC Koblenz . In 1910 there was another name change to "FC Viktoria" . Due to the outbreak of the First World War , however, these friendly matches came to a standstill for the time being. The first general assembly after the war was held on June 22, 1919. This time the club was simply called FC Vallendar , and it was also decided to join the West German game association in the DFB . In 1921 the club finally merged with the local gymnastics club to form the gymnastics and sports club 1878/08 . However, this merger was only to last a year, but after the separation the football players kept the name Turn- und Sportverein 08 .

Over the years, the number of athletes in the club also grew, and a bowling and fistball department were also founded. The first soccer team became champions of the 1st district class in the 1936/37 season and later also rose to the district league. In 1939 the footballers and the gymnastics club were again combined in 1878, this time under the name TuS Vallendar . During the Second World War , some of the footballers played in a syndicate with SpVgg Bendorf , when it was able to achieve the championship in the district league. In the last years of the war, however, the game operations of the first senior teams came to a complete standstill.

post war period

In autumn 1945 the members came together again, and on November 1, 1945 a first friendly match against SV Niederwerth was played. During this time, the agreement on the club name SC Grün-Weiß Vallendar 08, which still exists today, falls . Then you entered the game operations of the district league Rhein-Ort .

For the 1950/51 season , the rise in the then second-class Landesliga Rheinland succeeded . With 35:21 points in the middle of the relay, the league was promptly retained. After the next season , the third-rate amateur league was introduced. For this, however, only the five best clubs of the middle season qualified, the green-whites did not manage this cut, which means that you had to play in the 2nd amateur league first. Directly for the 1953/54 season , however, the direct resurgence should succeed, with 35:21 points at the end of the season even fourth place on the table was in it. However, they couldn't really hold out here for long and climbed back to the 2nd amateur league with 15:41 points over 14th place at the end of the 1955/56 season .

Crash from the 1960s

In 1961, however, this was followed by a further descent to the district league. After a structural reform, the club played from 1962 to 1967 in the 1st district league. Then the promotion to the A-Class Koblenz succeeded. The class could be held for a while. After internal disputes, however, it was over here too and it went into the 1st district class and later even further down to the 2nd district class. It was not until 1976 that new players from the youth team won the championship and thus the promotion back to the 1st district class.

Return to the national league

Due to a new class division, at least a fifth place was necessary in the following season in order to be allowed to play in the district league A, but this should not succeed with seventh place. Thus, the club will play in the district league B from the following season. However, this season it should finally work with the promotion. From there, with a lead of four points, the next championship and thus the promotion back to the district league succeeded. Another season later it was then possible to move up to the national league. After a fourth place in the debut season, he achieved an eighth place in 1983.

Another crash into the district league C.

Three years later, however, the team had to relegate back to the district league. After many players migrated to other clubs, the second team had to be signed off, the remaining players should then fill the first. This should not help, however, and it went far down through the district league A to the district league C, then only the relegation to the district league D could only be prevented. Two years later, however, the promotion to the district league B succeeded again and in 1998 the return to the district league A succeeded. Here it was then possible to hold for over three years, but then you had to go back to the district league B. compete, a little later it went down again to the district league C.

Current time

After the 2003/04 season there was a further relegation to the district league D due to a division reform. It was not until the 2005/06 season that they were promoted to the district league C again, but they could only stay there for one season and had to be relegated again at the end of the season. In the district league D then succeeds after the 2007/08 season again the championship and promotion. With the second place in the district league C then finally succeeded again after the season 2011/12. Here the team was able to hold out until the 2014/15 season, after which they had to return to the district league C as the last in the table with just 12 points. Here, however, the championship succeeds immediately and with it the direct rise again. At the end of the 2016/17 season, the championship and promotion to the district league A succeeded here again. The team continues to play here to this day.
