Workers' house in Grüneck

Grüneck, located southwest of Müllheim am Kemmenbach , emerged in the 19th century with the emerging cotton industry . After Eduard Bühler had built his first weaving mill at the confluence of the Kemmenbach and Aspibach rivers in 1856 , the later weaving mill Grüneck AG was established in 1871, employing 244 people in 1878. In 1859, the Grüneck workers' settlement with around 50 single-family houses was built in the vicinity of the factory. Various socio-political institutions such as a health insurance company , a consumer association and cultural associations were created. Although the Grüneck weaving mill survived the crises in the cotton industry in the 20th century and specialized in the production of bed linen (so-called Grüneta), the business was closed in 1999. After the sale of the area, the municipality of Müllheim approved a zoning plan change to a mixed residential and commercial zone in 2006 .

Grüneck is listed in the inventory of places worth protecting in Switzerland .
