The Kemme , also known as Chemebach or Chemibach in dialect in the valley , rises next to the main road from Siegershausen (in the Kreuzlingen district of the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland ) to Berg on the Mittelthurgau railway line and shapes the landscape. The initially small brook increases rapidly in size due to further flowing streams and can even swell into a raging river during thunderstorms. But it remains a stream along its entire length up to the confluence with the Thur near Pfyn .
In the course of its millennia-old history, the Kemme has dug itself deep into sandstone and marl deposits in several places . This brook landscape is also exceptionally interesting thanks to its flora and fauna . Species that have become rare can still be found here, such as the kingfisher , the lapwing and others.
The Kemme's hydropower was used several times. Place names such as Grubmühle, Klingenmühle and Mannenmühle still bear witness to this today. The Haslimühle is mentioned for the first time in 1448 and operated with the water power of the Chemibach until 1861.
Today the water is directed into the Vigogne Canal, flows through the turbines of the former Grüneck weaving mill and the former Vigogne spinning mill in Pfyn, before flowing into the Thur in the outlet canal.
