Grünewald is a location in the west of the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal , district of Cronenberg . The name Grünewald no longer exists as an independent name for this location.

The location is at an altitude of 297  m above sea level. NHN south of the main street and confluence with the street Neukuchhausen in the residential area Cronenfeld in the district of Cronenberg (Wuppertal) . Neighboring locations are Cronenfeld, VonKE , Vorderdohr and Oberkamp .

history

Grünewald was first mentioned in 1718 as Kotten under the name Am Kronenwald (= Krähenwald) and until 1806 belonged to the Elberfeld office in the Duchy of Berg . In 1813 it was assigned to the canton of Ronsdorf in the Grand Duchy of Berg .

In 1815/16 the place had 22 inhabitants. On the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824, the place is shown on the map as Am Grunewald.

In 1832 Grünewald belonged to the Dohrer district in the Kronenberg mayor's office in the Elberfeld parish . The place, categorized as a hamlet according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , was referred to as Grünenwald and at that time had seven residential buildings, two buildings categorized as factories and two agricultural buildings. At that time 59 inhabitants lived in the place, 17 of them Catholic and 42 inhabitants of Protestant faith.

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, 26 houses with 277 inhabitants are given.

In the address book of the Mettmann district in 1893, Grünewald is included as a place name. A street called Grünewalder Straße was named between 1910 and 1922. It was later renamed Neukuchhausen in 1935.

On the city map from 1930, Grünewald was recorded for the last time as a place name.
