Graham McRae (born March 5, 1940 in Wellington ) is a retired New Zealand racing driver .
Career
The Formula 1 -Career by Graham McRae was short. In 1973 he competed in the British Grand Prix on an Iso-Marlboro IR1 from Frank Williams Racing Cars , but the accelerator got stuck on the first lap. This defect is often lost in the statistics because Jody Scheckter caused a mass collision at the end of the first lap and McRae's failure appears in some sources as a result of this accident. In 1973 , he also drove the Indianapolis 500 mile , 16th and Rookie of the Year .
McRae built his own monoposto chassis in New Zealand and drove it to formula races. He came to Europe in 1969 and entered the Formula 2 European Championship in a Brabham that Piers Courage drove the year before . Before and after his brief appearance in Formula 1, he regularly competed in Formula 5000 races in a McLaren M10 .
After a few seasons in the CanAm series , McRae ended his racing career in the mid-1980s.
