Graham Christopher Stack (born September 26, 1981 in Hampstead ) is an Irish football goalkeeper . After his training at the London club Arsenal FC , the seven-time Irish U-21 international was unable to work his way up the rankings and ended up after changing clubs and several loan periods - without permanently asserting himself as "number 1" at English fourth division club FC Barnet .

Career

The goalkeeper began his career in the summer of 1998 in the youth team of Arsenal and was brought into the first team as the third goalkeeper in 2000. In 2002 he moved to the Belgian cooperation club KSK Beveren together with three other Arsenal players on loan . In the 2002/03 season he was used here regularly and drew national attention when he was attacked by an opposing hooligan after the final whistle in the game against Royal Antwerp and Stack knocked him down with one blow. After returning to London, he played his first game for Arsenal in the League Cup against Rotherham United on October 28, 2003 , won it on penalties and played all games in this competition up to the semi-finals - where the team lost to Middlesbrough FC . In July 2004 Stack hired on loan from city rivals Millwall FC and played 26 league games for the second division side.

Immediately after his return, the next loan station followed with the second division competitor and later promoted Reading FC , which decided on December 30, 2005 to sign the ex-Arsenal keeper with a 2½-year contract. But even there he couldn't get beyond being a reservist. He came almost exclusively in the cup and moved to Leeds United on loan in October 2006 and finally ended the 2006/07 season after permanent appearances in autumn 2006 on the bench. The "Odyssey" continued in August 2007 with a one-month loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers , where the Irishman was needed as "security" behind the only goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey after the injuries of Matthew John Murray and Carl Ikeme - the deadline was extended twice until the end of the 2007/08 season. After the relegation of Reading FC from the Premier League Stack received on May 16, 2008 the clearance for a club change.

Stack found his new footballing home in July 2008 with the second division side Plymouth Argyle , where he signed a two-year contract after a trial training session and made his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 9, 2008. On November 27, 2008, he went to Blackpool FC for a month - his sixth loan club by now - and returned without having played a competitive game with the Seasiders. He moved one more time to the Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season. Then Plymouth gave his goalkeeper, who had only been signed a year earlier, the transfer clearance.

On July 24, 2009, Scottish media announced that Stack had signed a two-year deal with first division club Hibernian Edinburgh . After his debut on the occasion of the second round success in the Scottish League Cup against Brechin City , he came directly to his first championship game in the Scottish Elite League against Celtic Glasgow . After three seasons with the Hibs , Stack moved to FC Barnet from Football League Two on a free transfer in August 2012 .
