The Grand Plateau Glacier is a 39 km long glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in Glacier Bay National Park about 116 km east of the settlement of Yakutat . The glacier was named Le Plateau by Jean-François de La Pérouse in 1786 . The current name, in English Grand Plateau Glacier , was later adopted.

geography

The Grand Plateau Glacier has its nutrient base on the northern flank of Mount Fairweather on the border with the Canadian province of British Columbia . It flows in a predominantly north-westerly direction. The main arm of the glacier flows into a glacial rim lake on the coast of the Pacific Ocean , which flows into the sea. A western branch flows into Alsek Lake .
