The Fairweather Range forms the most south-westerly mountain range of the Elias range in the Panhandle of Alaska (USA) and in the Canadian province of British Columbia .

location

The Fairweather Range extends NNW-SSE along the Pacific coast . It has a length of 150 km. It extends from the Alsek River in the north to the Cross Sound in the south. Melbern Glaciers and Grand Pacific Glaciers separate the mountains from the Alsek Ranges to the east . Glacier Bay also borders the mountains to the east .

In British Columbia, the mountain range lies entirely within the Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park . On the US side, it is completely within Glacier Bay National Park .

The Fairweather Range reaches altitudes of 2000 to 3000 m on average. The highest mountain and probably eponymous for the mountain range is the 4671  m high Mount Fairweather . The climate is strongly influenced by the Gulf of Alaska . The mountain range is heavily glaciated . In the south of the mountains there is the Brady Icefield, a large plateau glacier . Several valley glaciers reach down to sea level. The glacier area is steadily decreasing. Almost all glaciers are in retreat.
