The Mount Fairweather , by the Geographic Board of Canada officially mapped as Fairweather Mountain , is a mountain in British Columbia ( Canada ) directly on the border with Alaska (USA).
Summits that lie on the borderline between Alaska and British Columbia or the Yukon Territory are numbered as Boundary Peaks ( German : "Grenzgipfel"). Mount Fairweather is number 164.
geography
The snow-capped mountain is the highest point in British Columbia with a height of 4671 m . Mount Fairweather and the Fairweather Range named after him are located in the coastal mountains of the Elias chain .
The southern slope of Mount Fairweather is in Glacier Bay National Park on the Alaska border . The summit is located in Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park, named after the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers .
Weather
Despite its name, Mount Fairweather has rather harsh weather conditions. More than 2500 mm of precipitation falls on the mountain every year and temperatures drop to -45 ° C.

The first ascent of Mount Fairweather took place in 1931 by Allen Carpé and Terris Moore .
Naming
The British navigator James Cook named the mountain peak in 1778 after the good weather he experienced here.
