The Grand Colombier is a 1531 meter high peak in the French part of the Jura .
geography
The Grand Colombier belongs to the Bugey . It is located north of Culoz in the Rhone Valley, north of Lac du Bourget on the border between the Ain and Haute-Savoie departments . The Grand Colombier consists mainly of limestone.
particularities
The D 120 runs over the mountain from east to west, as does the D 123 over the Col du Colombier. The pass is at an altitude of 1501 meters. The route is often used for road bike races as it has gradients of up to 20 percent and is one of the most difficult in France. In 2012 the pass was used for the first time during the Tour de France .
A large steel cross is attached to the treeless summit. In good weather you can see the Alps and Mont Blanc .
