The Grange aux Dîmes ( tithe barn ) in Provins , a town in the Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France , is a Romanesque building from the 12th century. It has been a monument historique since 1847 . It is located on rue Saint-Jean.

history

The tithe barn, built of limestone , belonged to the canons of Saint-Quiriace in Provins. The canons rented the building to merchants from Toulouse who came to the Provins masses .

architecture

The Grange aux dîmes consists of three floors. A large vaulted hall in the basement was used for storing the goods. The upper hall, which can be reached via an external staircase and also has a vault , served the traders as a hostel. Above is the top floor.

Todays use
