Grant Goldschmidt (born April 16, 1983 in Cape Town ) is a South African beach volleyball player .

Career

Goldschmidt began his career in indoor volleyball and played for the national team . In 2005 he took part with Jerome Fredericks for the first time in a beach tournament of the FIVB and finished 25th. After he had not competed internationally in the following two years, he formed a duo with Gershon Rorich in 2008 . Goldschmidt / Rorich completed four open tournaments in Europe and finished 41st and 57th. However , Goldschmidt missed qualifying for the Olympic Games in Beijing due to an injury. In 2009 and 2010 he was again not active in international tournaments.

Since 2011 he has formed a duo with Freedom Chiya . In September Goldschmidt / Chiya won the beach volleyball tournament of the Africa Games in Maputo by beating a duo from Angola in the final . In 2012 they played at the Prague Open and the Grand Slams in Berlin and Gstaad without taking up any front seats. The two South Africans achieved another success in April 2012 when they won the Continental Cup and qualified for the Olympic Games in London . There they could not win a set in their three group games and were eliminated after the preliminary round.
