Gratian Mundadan

Gratian Mundadan CMI (born May 15, 1933 in Alengad , Kerala , India ) is Bishop Emeritus of the Bijnor Eparchy .

Life

Mundadan joined the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate on May 16, 1958 , a male Catholic order belonging to the Syro-Malabar Church united with Rome . He attended the seminary at Darmaram College in Bangalore and received on 17 May 1964, the priestly ordination .

When the Apostolic Exarchy Bijnor was established on March 23, 1972 by the papal bull Beatorum Apostolorum from areas of the diocese of Meerut and handed over to the care of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, Mundadan was appointed exarch. At that time he was teaching mathematics at SH College in Thevara , Kerala . He took office on July 25th. Five years later, on February 26, 1977, the Apostolic Exarchy was elevated to an eparchy by the papal bull Quae cum Romano Pontificatu, and Mundadan became bishop. He was ordained bishop on November 6, 1977 by Cardinal Joseph Parecattil , Archbishop of Ernakulam ; Co- consecrators were Cecil DeSa , Bishop of Lucknow , and Januarius Paul Palathuruthy , Bishop of Chanda . The inauguration took place on December 8, 1977.

On August 14, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. Mundadan's application to resign from the office of Bishop of the Eparchy Bijnor for reasons of age.
