Greco di Tufo DOCG is the name for dry white wines and sparkling wines ( Spumante ) from the Italian region of Campania . Since 1970 the wines have had the status of a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC). On July 18, 2003, the wines were upgraded to DOCG status , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The approved wine-growing area includes the municipalities of Altavilla Irpina , Chianche , Montefusco , Petruro Irpino , Prata di Principato Ultra , Santa Paolina , Torrioni and the eponymous municipality of Tufo , all in the province of Avellino .

In 2017, 30,340 hectoliters of DOCG wine were produced.

The dry white and sparkling wines must consist of at least 85% of the grape variety Grechetto , which is also called Greco B or Greco Bianco B here . A maximum of 15% Coda di Volpe Bianco may be added.

  • Color: more or less intense straw yellow
  • Smell: pleasant, intense, fine, characteristic
  • Taste: fresh, dry, harmonious
  • Alcohol content: at least 11.5  % by volume

  • Dry extract: at least 16.0 g / l

Greco di Tufo Spumante

  • Perlage: fine and persistent
  • Color: more or less intense straw yellow, with greenish or golden reflections
  • Smell: characteristic, pleasant, with a slight hint of yeast
  • Taste: pleasant, fine and harmonious. Extra dry or dry when expanded.
  • Alcohol content: at least 12.0  % by volume
  • Acidity : at least 6.0 g / l
  • Dry extract: at least 15.0 g / l
