course
The Green River arises at the confluence of its two source rivers Wild Goose Branch and Pemouet Branch at an altitude of about 320 m in the east of the Monts Notre-Dame , a mountain range of the Appalachians . The headwaters reach up to a height of 640 m . The Green River flows in a southerly direction, the first 10 km within Restigouche County (Comté de Restigouche), then in Madawaska County (Comté de Madawaska). After 30 km it passes First Lake , further west , which is drained into it. 28 km above the estuary, the river is dammed by a weir to the Étang Deuxieme-Sault . The Trans-Canada Highway crosses the Green River 5 km above the mouth . This finally flows into the Saint John River southeast of Rivière-Verte at an altitude of 140 m .
