Satō had her first international success at the Junior World Championships 2013 in Klobenstein . There she won gold in the team pursuit. At the Junior World Championships in 2014 in Bjugn , the Junior World Championships in Warsaw in 2015 and in March 2016 at the Junior World Championships in Changchun , she won the bronze medal in the team pursuit. She also took silver in the team sprint and gold in the mass start in Changchun. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season she started in Harbin for the first time in the World Cup and took sixth place over 3000 m in group B and 15th place over 1500 m in group A. In the further course of the season she reached her first podium in the World Cup with second place in the team pursuit in Nagano and won her first World Cup victory in the team pursuit in Heerenveen . At the 2017 World Individual Distance Championships in Gangwon , she achieved 20th place over 1500 m and 15th place over 3000 m. In February 2017 she won the bronze medal in the 3000 m, the silver medal in the mass start and the gold medal in the team pursuit at the Winter Asian Games in Obihiro . In the 2017/18 season she won the mass start and team pursuit in Heerenveen and the team pursuit in Salt Lake City . At the highlight of the season, the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in February 2018 , she became Olympic champion in the team pursuit. In addition, she came there in eighth place over 3000 m. At the World Cup Finals in Minsk , she won in the team pursuit and in the mass start and came second in the mass start World Cup.
In the 2018/19 season, Satō won three times in the team pursuit and once in the team sprint. In addition, she was third in the mass start in Heerenveen and thus reached sixth place in the mass start World Cup at the end of the season. At the individual distance world championships in Inzell in 2019 , she won the gold medal in the team pursuit. In addition, she ran there on the 16th place over 1500 m, on the 13th place over 3000 m and on the fifth place in the mass start. At the beginning of March 2019, she finished 13th at the All-Around World Championship in Calgary .
