Gregor Hammerl (born June 8, 1942 ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Hammerl was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 2010 to 2014 and from 2015 to 2018 and from 2000 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2015 a member of the Styrian state parliament . From January 1 to June 30, 2012 he was President of the Federal Council .

education and profession

After primary and secondary school, Hammerl attended the higher technical federal teaching and research institute in Graz-Gösting and then worked as a technician, former and foundryman in the Andritz machine factory . He did military service in 1962 and worked for the Austrian Armed Forces between 1963 and 1987, where he was initially an EF platoon commander and commandant of the reserve officers' trainers, most recently as a deputy lieutenant . He completed his training as a state-certified trainer in the armed forces and from 1972 acted as elected chairman of the staff representation in the armed forces and deputy chairman of the Styrian technical committee, where he was responsible for around 3,500 officers, non-commissioned officers and civil servants.

politics

Hammerl was the organizer of the Grazer Volkspartei from 1986 to 1987 and between 1987 and 1994 he held the function of city party manager of the Grazer Volkspartei. In addition, he was active as a councilor in Graz from 1988 to 2000 and from 1997 to 1999 held the office of executive city party chairman. From 2000 to 2010 Hammerl was a member of the Styrian state parliament for the first time. From 2000 to 2004 he was deputy city party chairman of the ÖVP Graz. He took on the role of spokesman for social affairs and senior citizens in the ÖVP state parliament club and has been regional chairman of the senior citizens' union in Styria since September 2009 . In addition, Hammerl is the chairman of the Styrian Relief Organization and Secretary General of EURAG (“European Working Group of the Older Generation in Europe”).

Gregor Hammerl was sent to the Austrian Federal Council for the first time by the Styrian Landtag on October 21, 2010. He remained a member of the Federal Council for four years until January 20, 2014, during which time he took over the office of President of the Austrian Federal Council in the first half of 2012 Federal Council . In January 2014, Hammerl initially moved back to the Styrian state parliament and therefore passed his mandate in the Federal Council on to Ernst Gödl . After the state elections in Styria in 2015 , Hammerl was again sent by the state parliament to the Federal Council in Vienna on June 16, 2015.

Bruno Aschenbrenner succeeded him in the Federal Council in October 2018 .
