Grepolis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grepolis is a browser-based strategy game published by InnoGames in 2009 . The game transports the player to ancient Greece as the ruler of a small polis . The aim of the game is to work together with other players to gain control of the island kingdom that makes up the game world. The game has some similarities to The Tribes , which was also developed by InnoGames.

Game principle and technology

General

The aim of the game is to dominate the game world by defeating the other players, usually within the framework of an alliance within which players unite to fight other alliances.

Each player starts with a few fellow players on a small island and founds a small town there, which must first be expanded. By expanding the polis into a city, new buildings and units will be unlocked, with which the player can go to war against his neighbors. Later in the game you have the opportunity to expand by conquering other cities or founding new cities and thus further expanding your territory. By building a temple, the player can ask the gods of ancient Greece for assistance in the war. Each of these five gods, between which the player can choose, has different advantages in the fight against other players. These include Zeus , Athena , Hera and Poseidon . With game version 2.0, Hades was introduced as the new god. The goddess Artemis also awaits the more experienced player in the so-called hero worlds .

Players can form alliances to protect themselves against enemy attacks by other players, to support each other with resources and troops, and to promote team play and interaction with other players. It is possible to conclude alliances, declarations of war and NAPs ( non-aggression pacts ) with other alliances.

financing

Grepolis gets by with very little advertising. Therefore, the game is financed by premium features that can be purchased in-game for money. For example, the purchased gold can be used for an “administrator” who provides you with many new overviews (e.g. building overview or unit overview). In addition to the “administrator”, there is also the option of investing your gold in a trader, a high priestess, a commander and the captain. These bring the player various advantages such as faster troop and trader runtimes, better favor with the gods or the increase in the combat strength of sea units. You can also celebrate the Olympic Games for 50 gold in order to achieve an effect after 24 hours that would otherwise take five days.

During the beta phase there was criticism of the premium system because the community was of the opinion that the premium elements intervene too strongly in the game and thus have a strong game-distorting effect. For example, there is the possibility of halving the construction time of a building with 25 gold. There is also the possibility to call the Phoenician dealer directly to any polis for 50 gold.

Differences from the tribes and other details

Actually, Grepolis is the newer The Tribes . Grepolis has revised graphics and new systems. What was a tribe with The Tribes is now an alliance with Grepolis , but it has the same benefits as a tribe. Grepolis has been improved graphically , and the menu has more animation than in The Tribes . In addition, Grepolis now has gods or z. B. a port, which later becomes particularly important to take other poleis (cities or villages), or to support poleis on other islands. There are also so-called farming villages (also called farms). B. Farming (capturing) resources. The buildings are: Senate (main building), woodcutter, quarry, silver mine, farm, warehouse, academy, barracks, agora , temple, harbor, cave, city wall and the market square. The special buildings of group 1 are: theater, thermal baths , library and the lighthouse. The special buildings of group 2 are: tower, god statue, oracle and the trading post. Only one group of special buildings can be built (that is, two special buildings can be built in total). The mythical units (two available for each god) and ships (including warships, transport ships and the colony ship) are new. The colony ship is needed to conquer a city or to colonize a free country (the tribes called it “nobility”).

Grepolis 2.0

Version 2.0 started on March 22, 2011 with two new worlds: World Omikron (March 21, 2011) and World Pi .

With version 2.00, one of the larger features was introduced with the introduction of the wonders of the world , which lead to the conclusion of a world as soon as an alliance has fully expanded four pieces, and hero worlds. In addition to the new god Hades, the Phoenician trader, who sells raw materials and troops for silver, has been added to the game. The graphics have also been greatly improved.
