Grete Sonnemann
Grete Sonnemann (born November 12, 1903 in Berlin-Wedding ; † February 22, 1990 in Berlin ), née Fräntzel , was a German politician ( SPD ).
Life
Grete Fräntzel was the daughter of a shoemaker who was also a social democrat. She attended an elementary school . After graduating from business school, she worked intermittently as a commercial clerk. In 1919 she became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD) and in 1922 switched to the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ). The following year she also joined the SPD. In 1928 Grete married Sonnemann. After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, it was illegally active. After her brother Max Fräntzel was arrested in Prague in 1939, she visited him regularly in the Brandenburg prison .
After the Second World War , Grete Sonnemann was active again and in 1946 co-founded the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO). In the following year she also became a co-founder of the New Education Working Group (ANE), of which she was the branch manager from 1951 to 1970. In the Berlin election in 1950 she was elected to the district council in the Reinickendorf district. In the 1958 election , Sonnemann was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives, to which she belonged until 1967.
Her niece was the later Senator Ilse Reichel-Koß (1925–1993).
Honors
In 1973 Sonnemann was honored as the city elder of Berlin , the laudatory speech was given by the Governing Mayor Klaus Schütz . In 1978 she was honored with the Ernst Reuter plaque . After her death she was given an honorary grave by the city of Berlin in the Tegel cemetery "Am Nordgraben".
