Gretty Rubinstein
Gretty Rubinstein , née Grete Rotman (born June 4, 1947 in Piatra Neamț , Romania , † October 14, 2001 in Jerusalem ) was a Romanian-Israeli painter , graphic artist and illustrator .
Life
She was born Grete Rotman, immigrated to Israel in 1964 and was married to the Israeli historian Shimon Rubinstein, who was born in Bârlad , Romania, in 1941 and had lived in Israel since 1950. Gretty Rubinstein died in October 2001.

She was a child prodigy in painting and won prizes for children's art in London and Paris, first studied at the Școala de artă Nicolae Grigorescu in Bucharest and from 1964 at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, where she won a prize for received her thesis. Numerous other awards followed and many solo and group exhibitions. Among other things, she took part in the 1972 Biennale for Graphics in Florence . She received a prize for excellent drawing in New York in 1988. She created illustrations for numerous books, for example for her husband's book about the catastrophe of the Struma (ship) and for several books by her friend Mircea Barnaure .
Stylistically she painted sometimes in an ironic neo-renaissance style, sometimes more expressionistic portraits, allegories, genre scenes from Judaism and the erotic.
