Griffith is a city in the Australian state of New South Wales and is located about 600 km west of Sydney . It is located in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area at an altitude of about 130 m.

Griffith was founded in 1916 and has 18,874. The city is one of several settlements that were created as part of an irrigation project on the Murrumbidgee River in the Riverina area. The fertile land was largely farmed by Italian immigrants and around 60% of the population are now of Italian descent. Griffith's twin town is Treviso .

Griffith has a small airport and is on several back roads. The city can also be reached by rail on the Roto - Cootamundra line .

The Griffith area is known as a wine-growing region .

Griffith is the center of the local Griffith City administrative area .
