Grimms Märchen ( Japanese グ リ ム 名作 劇場 , Gurimu Meisaku Gekijō , German "Grimm-Meisterwerke-Theater") is an anime television series from 1987, which is largely based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm ( Grimm's fairy tales ).
Conception
Unlike other animated films based on fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, like that of Disney or the series SimsalaGrimm the NDR , this Japanese series holds more to the presentation and displays numerous lesser-known fairy tales. The series also contains the typical anime elements . Usually a fairy tale is broadcast per episode, but every now and then a longer fairy tale extends over several episodes.
The castle seen in the opening credits is almost identical to the Neuschwanstein Castle, which is well known in Japan .
The series also takes into account fairy tales that can only be found in the first edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales and were later removed, such as Puss in Boots or Bluebeard .
Creation and publication
In Japan, the series (first season) ran for the first time from October 21, 1987 to March 30, 1988 on TV Asahi . The second season was shown there under the name Shin Gurimu Meisaku Gekijō ( 新 グ リ ム 名作 劇場 ) from October 2, 1988 to March 26, 1989.
The series was broadcast in numerous countries and translated into many languages. In addition to the Japanese original and the German version, the series was also available in Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Hungarian, Hebrew and Arabic.
The series first ran on German television in the early 1990s on Tele 5 and from 1997 on tm3 , where it was broadcast regularly until the end of 2000. When the tm3 station was discontinued in 2001, the series also disappeared from German television.
The German synchronization was created at Planet Wave Studios . In the German version, the original opening credits with the Japanese title song by Shiori Matsumoto were also used.
