Groß-Quern ( Danish Store Kværn ) is a district of the parish Steinbergkirche in the Schleswig-Holstein district of Schleswig-Flensburg . The district makes up the majority of the former municipality of Quern , which was incorporated into the Steinbergkirche in 2013.
location
The street village of Bargfeld is located directly west of Quern . The scattered settlement of Dingholz adjoins the southern outskirts . The Scheersberg with the Bismarck Tower is also three hundred meters north . Kleinquern is also located about eight hundred meters to the northwest . The main town Steinbergkirche is two kilometers to the east .
history
The place name consists of the place name Quern and the addition "Groß", which delimits the smaller Kleinquern , which is not far away . Groß-Quern is the original village of Quern. Kleinquern and Hattlund are daughter villages of the original village of Quern. The Church of St. Nicolai was built around 1200. In various chronicles, the year 1389 is mentioned as the year of origin or first documented year of the original village of Quern. The first documented naming of “Qwerne” did not take place until 1411, when the Duke of Lauenburg pledged the parish of Quern to the Danish king Margarethe I.
On a very detailed, Danish map from 1857/58 the place was to be found as "Kværn", whereby "Kleinquern" was already listed separately as "Lille Kværn". However , Großquern could already be found on Franz Geerz's map from 1858. The location could also be found on the map of the Prussian Land Survey around 1879.
