history

Like its surrounding area, the Scheersberg was formed by the ground and terminal moraines of the last glacial period , mainly through large glacier tongues. The name Scheersberg is a takeover of the Danish Skærsbjerg in the German language; it means mountain with stones , which indicates the large stone graves there. On the Scheersberg there was a large burial mound consisting of two burial chambers.

There has been a jug on Scheersberg since 1706 , and a new building was erected after a fire in 1884.

During the First Schleswig War there was a Danish observation post on the mountain

A Bismarck tower has stood at the highest point of the Scheersberg since 1903 . In 1899, planning and fundraising began to finance the tower, also using the ashlar donations visible on the tower. (The already mentioned complex with the two burial chambers was removed before the tower was built.) On July 18, 1900 the foundation stone was laid. The tower was designed to be fully accessible via internal stairs and therefore has a viewing platform. A flag was displayed on certain occasions or times. In September 2018 the tower was reopened after a long period of closure. In it is u. a. to visit an exhibition about the history of Schleswig-Holstein .
