geography

The village and district of Groß Hegesdorf are on the eastern slope of the Heisterberg, the northern tip of the Bückeberg . The villages south of the village in the Soldorf Basin have also been part of the municipality of Apelern since 1974. history

Numerous barrows in the Heisterberg indicate early settlement in the area.

Groß Hegesdorf was first mentioned around 1150 under the name Hit-Tigs Dorf . The name Groten Hegesdorp is documented from 1432 .

On March 1, 1974, Groß Hegesdorf and its neighboring villages Kleinhegesdorf , Lyhren , Reinsdorf and Soldorf were incorporated into the municipality of Apelern. Like the other districts, Groß Hegesdorf has no local council. The last town mayor was Heinrich Hecht.

Before the incorporation, there was a primary school, two restaurants with a grocery store and post office and a cooperative bank in Groß Hegesdorf, which is characterized by agricultural operations. In the southeast of the village is a cemetery with a cemetery chapel that was founded at the time of the community of Groß Hegesdorf. The joint municipality of Rodenberg has been the sponsor since 1974.

In earlier years there was a men's choir , a theater group and a national fire brigade band.

There is a volunteer fire brigade and a village community center in Groß Hegesdorf .
