The Great Knallstein is 2599  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Schladminger Tauern in Styria ( Austria ). The summit is about 5 km as the crow flies west of Sankt Nikolai in Sölktal . The marked normal ascent is relatively easy to climb in snow-free and dry conditions. The Großer Knallstein is a good mountain with a view.

The normal ascent takes about 4 to 4½ hours from St. Nikolai in Sölktal ( 1127  m ), first on a forest road, then on a cart path past the unmanaged Kaltherberghütte ( 1608  m ), then on a steep path to the Lower and Upper Klaftersee passing and finally in a north-westerly direction over a ridge, relatively steep to the summit with a cross.
