The Great Liachwi ( Georgian დიდი ლიახვი , Didi Liachwi ; Ossetian Стыр-Леуахи , Styr Leuachi ; Russian Большая Лиахви , Bolshaya Liachwi ) is a left tributary of the Kura in Georgia and South Ossetia .
It is 115 kilometers long and rises in South Ossetia on the southern slope of the mountain Lasg-Ziti ( 3877 m ) in the Greater Caucasus and flows into the Kura at Gori .
The river is fed by underground springs, glacier water , and melting snow . It reaches its highest level in spring and summer, while it is lowest in winter and parts of the river freeze over.
The cities of Tskhinvali and Gori lie on its banks . Little Liachwi flows to him in the upper reaches .
