The Great Schwarzhorn ( Norwegian Store Svarthorn ) is a very striking, 2490 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises at the southwest end of the Middle Petermann chain in the Wohlthatmassiv .
It was discovered, mapped and named during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . A new mapping based on aerial photographs and surveys was carried out during the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960).
