Großmuß is a district of the municipality of Hausen in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

location

Großmuß is located in the Hallertau near the A 93 about three kilometers southwest of Hausen.

history

The first references to Großmuß, whose name is derived from a “large moss”, are the documentary mentions of Muzze , Musse and Mussa after the year 1000 in the deeds of gift of the surrounding monasteries Weltenburg and Rohr , where local witnesses signed when buying or exchanging . The St. Emmeram monastery in Regensburg also had an estate in Mussa .

The documents and records of the Weltenburg monastery provided evidence that Großmuß was not cultivated by St. Emmeram, but by Weltenburg monastery. In 1128 the Weltenburg monastery in Großmuß owned three farms. The term Großmuß can be found for the first time in a deed of March 10, 1447, when the farm and the estate zu Großmuß were sold to Pastor Sigmund Werder of St. Emmeram in Regensburg for a purchase price of 60 pounds Regensburg pfennigs.

From the records of Pastor Werder one can infer the size of the village and its farms. From this and from the records of the tithe payments to the Weltenburg monastery, it can be seen that these were quite stately and profitable farms until 1803, in the year of secularization in Bavaria, their division took place.

The community of Großmuß belonged to the Kelheim district court and most recently to the Kelheim district. It was incorporated into the municipality of Hausen on January 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The 727 hectare Großmuß district is now divided into around 177 hectares of forest, 50 hectares of buildings and roads, and 500 hectares of agricultural area. Due to the cultivation of the special culture hops , Großmuß belongs to the Hallertau cultivation area. In 1987 Großmuß had 462 inhabitants, in 2018 there were 570 inhabitants.
