Great stone graves near Damerow (Neu Poserin)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The megalithic graves near Damerow (actually megalithic graves near Neu Damerow , but always listed under Damerow in literature) were at least two, but perhaps more megalithic graves of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Neu Damerow , a district of Neu Poserin in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district ( Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania ). Most of the graves were destroyed in the 19th century. Remains of a system were still preserved in the 1890s, but were later also removed.

location

The exact location of the graves is not known and is only given as "opposite (from Karow ) on the Damerow field mark". One (grave 2) was on the way between Damerow and Karow, grave 1 was 80 paces (about 60 m) away from it. The megalithic graves at Karow were nearby .

description

Grave 1

Only two graves were described in detail by Johann Ritter . Grave 1 was referred to by him as a " stone box " with a length of 9 feet (about 2.7 m) and a width of 7 feet (about 2.1 m). Based on these dimensions, Ewald Schuldt classified the facility as an extended dolmen and not as a stone box.

Grave 2

Tomb 2 had a mound bed 40 paces long (about 30 meters) and 12 feet (about 3.6 meters) wide . It can no longer be determined whether it was a chamberless giant bed or whether the burial chamber was simply hidden in the ground.
