Sprockhoff no. 451

The megalithic graves near Genzkow were two megalithic tombs of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Genzkow , a district of Friedland in the Mecklenburg Lake District ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ), of which only one still exists today. The preserved grave bears the Sprockhoff number 451. The second grave was destroyed before 1840 for the extraction of stones for road construction.

location

The preserved grave is located about 1.5 km northeast of Genzkow in a small forest. To the west of this, near today's federal highway 197, was grave 2. Two destroyed stone boxes from the Neolithic Age and at least 25 grave mounds are known from Genzkow .

description

The preserved grave 1

The complex has an almost east-west oriented burial chamber with a length of about 2 m and a width of about 1 m. The two wall stones on the long sides have burst, but are still in situ . They are 2.5 m and 2.3 m long. The wall stones on the narrow sides are missing. A capstone 2.2 m long and 1.7 m wide has been moved to the east. There are several bowls on its top . There are more stones lying around, the original position of which can no longer be precisely determined. The grave should be addressed as an ancient dolmen .

The destroyed grave 2

Grave 2 was quite similar to the existing complex and also had a mighty capstone. Presumably it was also an ancient dolmen. There is no information about dimensions and alignment.
