The large stone grave Garlipp was a megalithic burial complex of the Neolithic deep engraving ceramic culture near Garlipp , a district of Bismark (Altmark) in the district of Stendal , Saxony-Anhalt . The grave was destroyed in the 18th or 19th century.

location

The grave was located between Garlipp and Beesewege , not far from a large stone grave near Beesewege , which was also destroyed today.

Research history

The facility was documented for the first time by Johann Christoph Bekmann in his History of Chur and Mark Brandenburg , published in 1751 . Johann Friedrich Danneil did not mention it when he first systematically recorded the Altmark stone graves in the 1830s and 1840s. It had probably been completely removed in the meantime. Even Eduard Krause and Otto Schoetensack were at a record again in the 1890s find no remains more.

description

According to Bekmann's description, the grave was oriented north-south and had an enclosure of 34 stones of enormous size. The southern narrow side already had gaps and some stones were apparently carried away outside the barren bed. At the corners of the north side, two particularly large guard stones were set slightly out. The north-eastern one tapered upwards. The stones on the northern narrow side were very wide.

The burial chamber was in the southern half of the bed. According to Bekmann, it had twelve wall stones of medium size. There was also a capstone with a length of 2.8 m, a width of 2.2 m and a thickness of 0.8 m. Its top is said to have been flat, which suggests that it fell from its original position and rotated 180 ° in the process.
