The large stone grave in the Kunkenvenne , also called the large stone grave of Thuine, ( Sprockhoff no. 874), is a megalithic complex of the funnel beaker culture (TBK) and was created between 3500 and 2800 BC. Neolithic monuments are an expression of the culture and ideology of Neolithic societies. Their origin and function are considered to be the hallmarks of social development.
It is located in a forest, about one kilometer northeast of the town of Thuine in the Emsland district in Lower Saxony .
description
The almost oval edging made of two well-preserved concentric stone wreaths that tightly enclose the 26.5 meter long and up to 4.4 meter wide trapezoidal chamber is unusual . There are many bearing stones of the east-west oriented chamber, most of them in situ . Of the former 17 capstones, three are probably missing, but many of the preserved ones have fallen between the bearing stones. A short entrance leads into the chamber in the middle of the south side. The inner ring, about 29 meters long and a maximum of six meters wide, consists of 60 stones, which are significantly smaller than the 51 stones of the about 33 meters long and eight meters wide outer ring.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the passage grave is said to have been ransacked by French officers. In 1820, the Count of Münster dug in the complex and found some stone tools , amber beads and deep-engraved vessels from the Emsland group or their shards. In 1878 , Hans Müller-Brauel dug up more broken pieces, charcoal and human bones .
The complex is on the street of the megalithic culture
