Details

The chapel from the 18th and 19th centuries The 19th century was formerly consecrated to the Holy Corona , hence the name Groafrauerl , with Groa as a shortened pronunciation of Corona in Bavarian , combined with ... frauerl , the Bavarian diminutive for a (married) woman .

In the vernacular , the following story about the Groafrauerl is passed down:

“Long before the Thirty Years' War, a hunter was chasing a deer. In his zeal for hunting, he paid no attention to any direction, nor did he notice that the day was drawing to a close. He got lost in the thick forest until he finally no longer knew how to escape. In his need he asked St. Corona for help. Suddenly he saw a light in the distance from a tall spruce. He rode after this and came out of the forest. Later he kept his promise and built the chapel in front of this pine tree out of gratitude. "

- Popular saying

Today the Groafrauerl is a Lady Chapel . It was re -qualified as a monument under number D-2-79-125-32 and is a simple saddle roof building with an open vestibule. The over 500 years old and 60 cm high Corona statue, a seated late Gothic clay figure holding a box in the right hand and a scepter in the left, is now in the parish church of St. Peter in Bubach on the left side of the altar. The entrance or the vestibule is on the east side, where the forest road leads past.

Since the 1990s, the Catholic Women's Association in Mamming has been organizing a star pilgrimage to the Groafrauerl on the day of remembrance of St. Corona. In addition, the Bubach parish community (parish community Mamming-Niederhöcking) holds a so-called appeal with a May prayer at the chapel every year on May 1st .
