Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the maintenance and calming of an endangered wetland area close to the city, which, with its water, silting and land areas, is of great importance as a habitat for the bird world (resting, feeding and nesting areas). Because of the necessary population exchange, the protected area must be seen in connection with the Donauried and the other Danube reservoirs.
