Groombridge ( spelling GROOMBRIDGE ) is a Swiss band from Burgdorf . Their music is categorized as alternative rock and progressive rock .

Band history

Beginnings (2001 to 2010)

Groombridge was formed in 2001 from "Dyle" Christian Berger ( lead vocals , guitar , synthesizer ) and Samuel W. Hefti ( piano , synthesizer) in Bern. A little later, “Sky” (Lukas) Breitenstein ( drums ), “Fibe” Philipp Hirschi ( guitar , synthesizer ) and “Hessty” Thomas Hess (guitar, synthesizer ) from their circle of friends joined them. Samuel left the band in 2003 after it became clear that he could start studying film in Paris. To this day he continues to work with the band on clips and videos. Abhinay Agarwal completed the band on bass from 2004 to 2006 . The band was named after a village in England called Groombridge .

In 2004 the band recorded their first EP Bass Doctor Elvis , which was already played on smaller radios and helped the bands to further appearances. After leaving Abhinay, the band recorded their first album Phrases from the Second Floor with Kaspar Hochuli in 2006 . He accompanied the band as a session musician until 2007, when «Sili» Silvan Grütter took over bass . The album had a good response and some songs from it are still played on the radios to this day. It was recorded in the hard studios in Winterthur in collaboration with Martin Ruch ( Bonaparte , Vienna Art Orchestra , Swiss Jazz Orchestra etc.) and Christoph Steiner ( Hildegard learns to fly ), who still have a great influence on the band and on all other albums have collaborated.

After the release, Groombridge embarked on the Emerger Tour at the end of 2007 , which led across Europe. Concerts took place in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and England. The band set off in a self-converted caravan without any major preparations. The tour was followed by the newspaper for 20 minutes in a blog and partly in print. The video series can still be seen on the Groombridge YouTube channel. In 2010 the band recorded their second studio album Customers From Hell at Planet Roc Studio in Berlin. This album also had positive reviews and helped the band to appear at the Gurten Festival and larger concert halls in Switzerland.

Since 2011

In 2011, the band went on the first of three China tours. Two further and larger tours followed in 2013 and 2014. The concerts took place at open airs and at universities and were each attended by 500 to several thousand spectators. From this adventure the tour documentary for you isches Easy was created , which documents the second journey from Groombridge in about 50 minutes. The film can be seen on the band's website and on Youtube and provides exciting insights into the life of a band on tour. To this day, the band is repeatedly confronted with these tours and frequently asked about life in China.

In 2013, the band recorded the third studio album Panic: We Are Hanging Here between the two China tours . This album was praised by the critics, but rated as the weakest album to date.

After two sons of Dyle suffered serious illnesses, the band recorded the album Boy from the Golden City in 2015 . This is a concept album that dealt exclusively with the processing of these events. This album had a great response and was played on radios across Switzerland. The album also received a lot of attention internationally. The publication was accompanied by a book that documents the last China tour in the form of photos.

In 2017, Groombridge's last album so far was released with Der Specht . For their promotion, they designed a 15-minute short film that included four songs from the album.

Music genre

Musically, Groombridge move in alternative rock and progressive rock. Occasionally the style is also referred to as art rock . Musical influencers are Radiohead , Deftones and Pearl Jam . The music is very changeable, powerful and packed with a multitude of ideas. In addition to rock, the music also contains experimental parts and electronic music . Other songs are reminiscent of the psychedelic rock of the 1970s. In the course of the band's history, the music has become harder than softer.
