Hildegard learns to fly is a Swiss formation of avant-garde jazz around the singer Andreas Schaerer .

The band was founded in 2005 to mainly realize compositions by band leader Andreas Schaerer. The group's music “combines influences from marching , jazz, ska and funk as well as echoes of swing orchestras or brass bands from the Balkans.” In 2007 the debut album was released on the Unit Records label . In 2008 the group was awarded the ZKB Jazz Prize. Starting in 2011, Pro Helvetia awarded jazz funding for three years . In 2014 the band received the BMW Welt Jazz Award . The band has toured Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Luxembourg, China, Italy, Finland, Great Britain and France.
