The David mine is a former iron mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Romaney district . The mine field was awarded to iron on January 11, 1869 and was owned by Jews. The pit is named after the Old Testament King David , a particularly identifying person in Judaism (see e.g. Star of David ). The authoritative file of the David mine was deleted and destroyed by a resolution of the Bonn Higher Mining Authority on September 18, 1937. Local folklorists see this as an attempt by the Nazi regime to permanently eradicate Jewish names. The following note can be found in the mining land register : " Closed on November 10, 1937 due to the abolition of mine ownership." The site of the mine was about 200 m east of the Kuckelberg farm by a small stream. There you can still see some smaller digging sites today . Nothing is known about the operating activities.
