The Elberfeld mine was a non-ferrous metal ore mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach in the Kaule district . The Grubenfeld Direktion Elberfeld extended in the Königsforst around the old embankment about 600 meters north of the old Forsbach train station.

history

The presumption of the mining area Directorate Elberfeld from May 28, 1889 is the construction of the railway from Bensberg to Rösrath back where they came across ores. It was provided by the Elberfeld Railway Directorate and had the following wording:

" During the earthworks for the branch line Bensberg - Immekeppel in the fiscal forest district Königsforst, municipality Bensberg-Honschaft, hall 1, about 900 m NE of the" Siebenwege "(Wegestern an der Kaisereiche ), 850 m S of the Holzerbach and 850 m WNW of " Schwiegelshohn " found zinc, lead and copper ores 2 to 3 m below the surface. Since the site is reportedly in the open field , I hereby apply for a speculation on the ore types mentioned under the name "Direktion Elberfeld". "

- signed Schrimpff, Royal Government Builder.

The following award document for the extraction of lead, zinc and copper ores is dated July 12, 1890.

Operation and facilities

Nothing is known about the operation of the mine because so far no written documents have been found. The location can be easily reached with the given coordinates via the old railway embankment, which can now be used as a hiking and cycling path. But it's hard to spot relics today.
