The corner pit was one of the larger mines in the municipality of Brachbach in the Altenkirchen district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

The pit was mentioned for the first time in 1772. In 1841 the basic gallery was created. This had a length of 950 m, after 710 m there was a junction to the apple tree pit . Consolidation took place on September 9, 1853 . In 1873, 18,054 t of iron ore were mined, compared to 1,322 t in 1859. Civil engineering began in 1879, and the 4.4 × 1.42 m shaft was built in the same year . It had a depth of 157.352 m plus 9 m, which lay in the swamp , and a wooden winding tower . There was a connection to the Apfelbaumer Zug mine. The production in 1880 together with Apfelbaumer Zug amounted to 2,565 t Brauneisenstein and 7,011 t Spateisenstein. Production was stopped between 1908 and 1919. From then until the closure of the mine conveyed again in the 1926th Up to 80  staff members worked in the pit.

The middle of the pit led to Brauneisenstein in the upper depths, but only Spateisenstein as the depth increased.
