The pit Maiblume is a former calamine -Grube of Bensberger Erzreviers in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Gronau district .
history
Due to a Mutungssgesuchs of December 25, 1853 the name "Maximilian" which took place ceremony of the mining area on October 25, 1854 the name Maiblume on calamine , lead ore and iron ore . The award plan from 1853 shows that shafts and tunnels had been dug in the pit. Contemporary witnesses reported that they played in this area as children after the Second World War. There were deep “hollows” and “holes” there. There were also some "caves" on the site into which they crawled with candles. How and when the dismantling was carried out is not known.
Location and relics
The Maiblume mine field extended between Duckterather Weg and Buchholzstrasse and between Hermann-Löns-Strasse and Mülheimer Strasse. Between the Britanniahütte and Hermann-Löns-Straße and east of Nikolaus-Lenau-Straße was a limestone quarry in which the Mayflower pit was opened . Several pings and heaps , some of them larger, reveal the earlier mining activity. However, it is not possible to determine exactly which relics come from the earlier quarry and which from mining. To make matters worse, the houses Hermann-Löns-Straße 74-112 were built in the northern part in 1998. In this area, the site had been backfilled years ago.
