Grund is a district of the Lüttringhausen district in the north of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Remscheid . The population is around 200.

It is located in the west of Lüttringhausen near the city limits of Wuppertal . The village is surrounded by meadows in a depression about 220 meters above sea level at the confluence of the Oelingrather Bach in the Grunder Bach , which in turn flows into the Morsbach a few hundred meters further at Gründerhammer at an altitude of 177 meters .

history

In 1547 the court was first mentioned as an Indeme foundation . It was a larger farm that had to provide the respective sovereign with two horses for clamping services. In 1617 the name was mentioned in the Grundt . The term Grund is derived from the Middle High German term grunt and means something like 'valley', 'gorge' or ' lowland '. Until 1580 there was a Reckhammer and an ironworks at the founder hammer, which were operated by Lutter im Grund and Wyrnke in the Siepen.

Buildings and businesses

The townscape is still characterized by numerous, partly slated half-timbered houses . The houses Grund 11, 25, 28, 30, 33, 35, 40, 43 and Grunder Schulweg 1, 13, 38 are under monument protection. Agriculture no longer plays a role. In the settlement of Gründerhammer, located in the Morsbach valley, there were water hammers , blacksmiths and grinding booths that used the water power of the streams for metal processing in pre-industrial times . Even today there are several metalworking factories and workshops of craftsmen.

Around 1910, two bakers basically supplied the residents with bread and other baked goods. After the Second World War there were basically two restaurants. An external butcher's shop and a Cronenberg bakery had small sales outlets in the Wirtz business . There was also a grocery store in the center of the village. Only one of the two restaurants survived and developed into a dining restaurant with a first-class reputation.

Until the seventies of the last century, Grund had its own drinking water supply. The water was directed from the higher spring area in the direction of Oelingrath using the natural gradient into the water pipe system and into the individual houses. The Grunder Wasserleitungsverein took care of the organization and financial processing. When the pipeline system became dilapidated, however, there were lengthy negotiations with the Remscheid municipal utility, which finally connected the court to the municipal water pipeline system.

traffic

The Ronsdorf-Müngstener Railway ran through the Morsbachtal parallel to the Morsbachtalstraße and was primarily used to transport raw materials and finished goods from the companies. There was a train station in Gründerhammer. Today a city bus line and a citizen bus run only sporadically through Grund and Gründerhammer .

Several marked hiking trails run through Grund. There is a parking lot for hikers on the southern outskirts. A footpath leads from the center of the village over the hill to the Spelsberg .

Culture and clubs

The sports field above the courtyard was the home ground of the SSV Grund football club and is now used for various sports and games, e.g. B. archery and softball.

Next door, in the former village school and later elementary school, is now the Grund Natur-Schule , which was restored in 2011 and is an educational institution managed by a sponsoring association that teaches children and young people aspects of nature and environmental protection. A wide area extends behind the building, including a herb garden.

Since the beginning of the last century there was the volunteer fire brigade Grund , which had its own fire station . A few years ago it merged with FF Haddenbach and FF Goldenberg to form the northern fire service and is thus assigned to the Remscheid fire department.
